Exploring opportunities to improve the delivery of, and access to, Specialist Disability Accommodation
The introduction of the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) program signifies a paradigm shift in the housing landscape for people with disability. At the same time, program implementation has not been smooth sailing.
Considerable challenges exist across the entire SDA sector, ultimately compromising the rights of people with disability to access housing that is not only suitable and affordable, but also promotes choice and control over their living arrangements, including where, and with whom they live.
Drawing on recently published research, this session will explore the complex interaction between the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) program and the social housing sector. From the delivery of SDA to the experiences of NDIS Participant navigating and accessing housing under the program, this session will highlight opportunities for strengthening the sector and improving access to inclusive, accessible, and well-located housing for people with disability.
